In Gaibandha, 10 people lost their lives in Kalbaishakhi storm

Ten people, including women and children, were killed in Gaibandha after an hour-long storm that started suddenly. Of these, four are in Gaibandha Sadar, three in Palashbari, two in Fulchhari and one in Sundarganj.
The deceased have been identified as Munir, 5, son of Hiru Miah of Harinsingha village in Ramchandrapur union of Gaibandha Sadar and Arjina Begum, 26, wife of Riju Miah of Basudebpur village in the same union. Quader Miah’s wife Mamta Begum (64) and Hafiz Uddin (65), son of late Barek Miah of Dakatiyar Char village in Erendabari union of Fulchhari upazila.
Besides, Jahanara Begum, 50, wife of Younus Ali of Bakerpara village in Betkapa union of Palashbari upazila and Abdul Ghaffar, 42, son of Abbas Ali of Mostafapur village of the same union, Sahara Begum, 41, wife of Mithu Mia of Unnipara village in Malibari union of Gaibandha Sadar upazila. Moina Begum, 48, wife of Solaiman Ali of Haldia village and Shimuli Begum, 28, wife of Bishu Miah of Katlamari village under Gazaria union of Fulchhari upazila.
Witnesses said that a rainless Kalavaishakhi storm started around 3 pm on Sunday. Innumerable unfinished houses were destroyed, trees were uprooted and electricity was damaged in some places. The people affected by the loss of income have not yet been able to repair the collapsed houses, they have sought government assistance.
Pay-off: In Kalbaishakhi Tandbe district, Sadar, Palashbari, Fulchhari, Sundaganj and Sadullapur upazilas, more than 300 houses and over a thousand trees have been damaged.
