Human chain and protest in Gaibandha demanding arrest and trial of those involved in Pinky murder

Locals have rallied in Gaibandha’s Fulchhari Upazila to demand arrest and trial of those involved in the murder of housewife Pinki.

In the morning, several hundred men, women and students of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila staged an hour-long human chain on the Gaibandha-Saghata road in Badiakhali. Makshudar Rahman, Amena Sultana, Alam Mia, Lelin Mia and others spoke on the occasion.

The speakers said that Pinki got married to Raju Akand of the same village a month and a half ago after falling in love with Pinki of Dakshin Udiakhali village in Fulchhari upazila of the district. Raju’s family has been pushing for dowry since the marriage. On April 1, Pinky was killed for not paying the dowry and the people of Shashur’s house hung her with a rope around her neck in a barn next door.
